Our team
UBC Open Robotics, nicknamed "OpBots", is a multidisciplinary robotics design team at the University of British Columbia. We bring together over 60 students from across UBC, including engineering (mechanical, electrical, chemical, biomedical, integrated, engineering physics), science (neuroscience, microbiology) and more.
Our team provides a collaborative, hands-on environment where members develop strong technical problem solving skills. OpBots members consistently go on to achieve success beyond the team, pursuing impactful careers and opportunities across industry, research, and entrepreneurship.

Following UBC Open Robotics's success in the RoboCup@Home Education challenge that involved programming a standard platform robot, our goal is to take part in the RoboCup@Home 2023 in the open platform league. This entails designing and implementing an autonomous service robot to take part in the international competition. To realize this goal, our subteams are working on their respective parts of the robot.
A 6 degree-of-freedom robotic arm designed to serve hot beverages. The system incorporates mechanical components, such as motors and gearboxes, electrical hardware, such as PCB’s and MCU’s, and software developed using ROS2 for control and automation.
Smart knob that emulates the force an electron would feel as it travels through a circuit.
